CLARIFICATION TEXT ON PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING

Identity of Data Supervisor (Controller):

As United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) Turkey Office, we have a high sensitivity about your personal data and the security of these data. Within this scope, in line with the "16-Day Activism - Stop Violence Against Women" Campaign ("the Campaign") that we are conducting, the personal data of the persons who visit the this website and fill the survey shall be processed by UN Women Turkey Office as “Data Supervisor” within the scope of personal data processing transactions such as collection, usage, creation, protection, keeping, changing, classification and in line with 6698 numbered Law on Protection of Personal Data (“the Law”) as well as related legal regulations. In this clarification text, the principles regarding the processing of your personal data are determined within the scope of the Law and relevant legislation.

This clarification text is for the visitors of the website and the visitors who fill out the survey on the website.

Personal Data Processed Within the Scope of the Campaign:

Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. Within the context of the Campaign, if you fill out our questionnaire (a) your age range and avatar gender information data and, (b) if you visit our website, the IP address of your computer that your browser will automatically transfer to our server, the information about your browser, the website you are on just before your visit to our website, requested URL or file, date and time of your visit, the volume of the transmitted data and PROCESS SECURITY data such as error messages, status / condition information. You are free to transmit these data. We would like to express that if you do not transmit the mentioned data, we will not be able to provide you with the content you want.

Apart from the personal data we have mentioned above, no other personal data are processed. However, if you contact us via e-mail, your e-mail address and the information you will provide, and the date and time of your e-mail may also be processed in order to respond to your e-mail requests.

Collection Method of Personal Data and Processing Terms / Legal Basis of Data Processing:

Your personal data are obtained by the Data Supervisor by means of transmission realized by you personally, are collected and stored in physical and / or electronic environments for different legal reasons, and are processed by fully or partially automatic methods or non-automatic methods provided that it is part of a data recording system.

Your age range and avatar’s gender data are processed on the basis of the legal reason for your "express consent" in accordance with Article 5/1 and Article 6/2 of the Law, provided that you participate in our survey within the scope of the campaign. By filling out the survey on our website, you are giving explicit consent of your personal age range and avatar’s gender data to be processed.

Your IP (Internet Protocol) address data, which has the identifier number of a device that uses the internet for communication purposes in a computer network that distinguishes it from other devices, is processed automatically through web site based on the legal basis of "It is mandatory to process data for the legitimate interests of the data controller, provided that it does not harm the fundamental rights and freedoms of the person concerned." regulated in the Article 5/2/f of the Law.

Withdrawal of the Consent:

Your explicit consent for the processing of your personal data continues until you withdraw the consent in writing. You can forward your request to the Data Controller stating that you have withdrawn your consent for the use of your personal data and that you want your personal data to be no longer used at any time you wish. Unless there is a legal regulation or legal obligation to the contrary, the Data Controller shall cease to process your personal data, which is processed based on your explicit consent, to be effective from the date of your request.

Purposes for Processing Personal Data:

Your personal data mentioned above shall be processed for the purposes outlined below and only for the purposes stated below. In the case your personal data needs to be processed for a purpose other than the aforementioned, you will be informed about the purpose of the new processing, and your personal data shall only be processed for a new purpose, except for those listed, if your consent has been explicitly given by you (except if an explicit regulation is also included in the legal legislation).

Age Range and Gender of Avatar:

Within the scope of the campaign, age range and avatar’s gender data are processed with the aim of measuring the awareness and knowledge level of users of different age ranges and chosen avatar genders on gender-based cyber violence and obtaining collective and anonymous data regarding this.

IP Address:

IP address is processed for the purposes;

- to identify the city / country which the campaign participants entered from and to obtain collective and anonymous data regarding this,


- to present the site content to the visitors,

- to share the results of the survey on social media channels,
- to ensure that the "Guide on Gender-Based Cyber Violence" is downloaded to the participants' tools.

The IP address is used only to obtain city / country level geolocation information.

Storing Time of Personal Data:

Age Range and Gender of Avatar:

Age range and gender of avatar are processed by DigitalOcean LLC, the provider of this website, as Data Processor in accordance with the Data Controller's orders and instructions, and is stored by DigitalOcean LLC at its own data center located in the Netherlands. This storage process will be carried out for a maximum of 180 days in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

IP Address:

The IP address is processed by DigitalOcean LLC, the provider of this website, as Data Processor in accordance with the Data Controller's orders and instructions, and is stored by DigitalOcean LLC  at own data center located in the Netherlands. This storage process will be carried out for a maximum of 180 days in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.For these storage terms and conditions, you can visit https://www.digitalocean.com/legal/privacy-policy/.

In order to protect our website against attacks and ensure its proper functioning, we store IP addresses temporarily and for limited access for a maximum of 180 days. This period can be extended if and when necessary to track attacks and incidents.

Transfer of Personal Data to the Third Parties:

Your personal data can be transferred for the purposes stated above to the third parties that provide storage, archiving, information technology support (server, hosting, software, cloud computing) or to UN Women headquartered in New York.

Transfer of Person Data Abroad:

Your personal data is transferred to our service provider abroad based on your explicit consent within the scope of the 5/1 article of the Law in order to store the collected data within the framework of the personal data processing conditions and purposes specified in Articles 8 and 9 of the Law.

Your personal data may also be shared with our head office located abroad in an anonymized form in order to obtain statistical data. The data shared in this context will not be personal data.

Transfer of Personal Data to Public Authorities:

Personal data, in accordance with Article 5/2 /ç of the Law may be shared with public institutions and organizations legally authorized to request this information when necessary, on the basis of the legal reason that "it is mandatory for the data controller to fulfill its legal obligation" and the legal reason "explicitly stipulated in the law" in Article 5/2 /a to ensure your security and fulfill its obligation before the law in  order to fight against crime and threats to the state and public security, in cases where there is a legal or administrative obligation to report or provide.

Cookie Usage:

We use cookies for you to fill out the survey on our website and download the “Guide on Gender-Based Cyber Violence”.  Cookies are small text files that a website sends to the user's computer or mobile phone browser and allows us to realize whether you have visited the website before. When you visit the website, information about the operating system you use, information about the device you use, on-site behavior information, location information are collected. If you wish, you can completely block cookies from your browser. However, this may prevent you from using the website's functions. Sharing on Social Media:

If you press the "Share" button that appears after filling out the survey on our website, no personal data is transmitted to the relevant social media channel. When you use your own profile to share the content on our website, we have no relation with content and scope of data collected by these networks. In this regard, the terms of use and privacy policies of the relevant social network apply.

Protection of Your Personal Data:

All necessary administrative and technical measures have been taken by the Data Supervisor in order to ensure the security of your personal data and to prevent unauthorized access, collection, disclosure, copying, modification and similar risks to your personal data.
